rob schneiders pants
On eBay, I found someone who was selling rob Schneider's pants from his movie "deuce bigalow." The funny thing is there were actually seven bids on the pants. The bidding was up to an intense price at thirteen dollars.

once, and class review
I really liked the movie we watched called Once. To me, It seemed to be qiute inspirational. I thought it really helped me get the idea of what a personal narrative is. The main charater portrayed the life of person in poverty very well. It wasnt like one of those blockbuster movies where what happens in the movie could never happen in real life.
In class, i like how movies and video clips are used to give students a better understanding of the assignment to come. I know it really helped me find ideas to brainstorm.

favorite game as a child
My favorite toy as a child were Lego's. I remember looking forward to playing with them all day before I would get out of school. What I liked most about them was that anything was possible, I was able to build anything I wanted. Because of my liking toward Lego's, to this day I still really like to build things. For a long time I thought that i was going to make building a profession, but later decided not to go down that road. I am positive that my Lego usage as a child encouraged me to think of this.

tv show
If i had to persuade someone to watch a TV show, I would choose the series LOST. I never really got into it right as it came out, because I had never seen it. I had seen my commercials showing its airing times, but never actually watched. My roommate was a huge fan, and constantly talked about it. He would always say, "Nice, LOST is on tonight," and "Derek you should watch one episode just so you can see what its like." And that is what I did, I watched the first episode, and was hooked. I immediately thought to myself why had I not started watching this right when it came out. It is an action packed adventure, filled with an uncountable number of twists and turns. It kept me watching, because I always wanted to know what was going to happen next.

exreme emotion
I have had many instances of extreme emotions in my life, but one that stands out in my head is the time I went to state for hockey. I was so ecstatic that I could barely get my gear on before our first game. It was such a great accomplishment for me being the captain of my team and being a senior. I was so surprised that we made it there, I didn't really care so much as to how we ended up finishing. I was surprised once more by winning the consolation championship. I meant so much to me, and it couldn't have come at a better time.

advertising
Generally when I'm watching TV, and a commercial comes up my instant reaction is to change the channel. However, if the commercial strikes me as interesting or funny, I may leave it on and watch it. In my Mass Communications class I learned that I am a "zapper." A "zapper" is a person who turns the channel whenever an advertisment comes on.

comparing letters
In comparing the two letters written by Martin Luther King Jr. and Barak Obama, it’s hard for me to understand what Martin Luther King jr. is bringing to the table, because I didn’t grow up in those times, and therefore don’t know how things exactly were. On the other hand Barak Obama’s letter is much more involved in my life. All of the current problems with racism are seen every day. Two very clear differences I can see in both letters are that they are talking from different viewpoints. Barak Obama is speaking mainly about his, along with his families struggle to come up in a world, with racism lingering and less apparent. In Martin Luther King Junior’s case, he is speaking more on the behalf of the entire nation of African Americans.

spring break
Before spring break even began Derek knew it would be a fun week off of school. Although he didn't do much, he still had a great time hanging out with his closest friends. Over break, Derek and his friends tended to hang out around one of their homes at one time. They would watch TV, play games, or relax in the jacuzzi. Nearly everyday, in the afternoon, they would head to the gym to work out for a few hours. The days they didn't go to the gym, they made up by going on long bike rides. He didn't spend much time away from his friends, so they would do just about everything together. Except for one night he went to the Minnesota Wild hockey game with his dad. He had a great time watching the sport he loved the most. Derek's spring break might not appeal to others, but to him, its all he wanted.

2nd paper
I haven't started doing anything yet for my paper. All I have really done is think of a topic. I chose the topic i did, because it is the section my mass communication class is in. I found it somewhat interesting, so i decided to do my paper on it. I plan on starting and finishing my rough draft over spring break

a modest proposal
Jonathan Swifts "a modest proposal" seemed kind of out there to me. All this talk about higher class people eating infants for meals. I had just never heard anything like it. While reading the essay, it was a bit difficult to understand what he was trying to propose, or what side he was even on. But when I read the final conclusion, I figured out that he was against the eating children for dinner, and for the common good of society. The essay kind of hit me as he was trying to preach what he believed. Like he was trying to get people to see the proper side to life.

video monday
As a person, I'm not very environmentally aware. But after watching this video, I got a new perspective on how to view the world. I thought it was cool that Woody would ride a bike that far for something he feels so strongly about. I know i wouldn't be able to do it. When he said, "there is blood and pus in non-organic milk," made me think what my diet really consists of. As for the guy with the upside down flag on his bike, I'm too positive about it. I think that many people who see that would say he was disgracing our flag. The food they ate on the way down didn't sound to appetizing, but apparently tasted good. I never knew you could the foods in the way they did. An example is the avocado chocolate cake. I would never think of that.

my name
I don't have a clue as to how my parents came up with my first name Derek. I pretty sure they just liked the sound of it, or something. My middle name, David, was passed down from my grandpa to my dad, and then from my dad to me.
The name Derek Means: ruler of the people, or gifted ruler according to, -http://www.paulsadowski.com/NameData.asp
It comes from English Decent, from a low German form of Theodoric

learned in library, and concerns for paper
Although I have been to the library a few times prior to our class trip. I was still unsure how to use the call number to locate a book or other kind of material. I ended up staying after in the library to get some help from the librarian finding the books I was looking for. We didn't find all of the ones I wanted, but made up for it buy getting ones similar.
I don't have too many concerns for my paper. I just hope I can find an abundance of sources to use, along with enough information out of those sources.

cold days
I'm not too fond of bitter cold days, mainly because your not able to do anything productive outside. If it's really cold out, it usually means that it's somewhat cold in the dorm rooms. If it is cold in my room I refuse to get up, and leave the warmth of my bed. Some nights we will leave the window open just because the dorms get so hot, but I always end up closing it sometime in the night. To bear the bitter tundra, I would usually put on a stocking cap and gloves, so i don't get frost bitten, which happened already. I try to stay away from my car, because when it's cold, parts are more likely to break, and it take a long time to warm up. On cold days there is one thing that I like to do outside, and that is skate. All of my life I have played hockey, and to pass up good outdoor ice is like denying free ice cream.

song
It's somewhat hard for me to single out just one song to write about, but if i had too it would be "BBQ Stain" by Tim McGraw. Over the past few years I really started to get into country music. If I could think of one reason why, I would have to look towards my friends. Back home I have different friends in different clicks. I mean there is the rock click, rap click, and the country click. And for some reason I would always find myself wanting to spend the majority of my time with my friends from the country click. I don't really know why, it must have just stuck with me. It seemed to just help keep me centered and happy. Now that I spend most of my time at college. I find there is a lot of free time, so i spend mine listening to country music.
The lyrics from "BBQ Stain" tend to remind me of all of the good times I had growing up with friends, during summer. I like how the time frame of the song relates to my certain age group, and how life tends to be. The song talks about seeing a special looking girl at a fair, but nothing seemed to come of it. Later on in life they see each other on a plane heading down to Marti gras. I like it because it ends right there, so you don't really know what happens after so it gets you thinking.

My Favorite Place
It's kind of hard for me think of my favorite place, because I have been to so many cool places. If I had to choose I would pick Jamaica. I was in fifth grade, and it was my first long trip away from home. I would have to admit I was a bit afraid of flying over the ocean for the first time. I went down with my immediate family accompanied by close family, and family friends. On the way down the plane ride was frightening to me, but after awhile I became used to it. The entire trip was amazing, other than the incredible sun burn I received. Down there, there were some many activities to choose from like, the watermelon eating contest, turtle races, jet skiing, goat races, and many more. A few months prior to leaving for vacation I came down with a terrible sickness, which stayed along for the entire trip. Although it was with me, I tried to ignore it and, have have fun. If I had to choose to go anywhere in the world right now, it would be back to Jamaica.
